Ellen Koch

By jwong | August 24, 2017

Program: PhD, Neuroscience
Year in program: 2nd year
Hometown: Agassiz, BC

What inspired you to pursue your program?
I knew that I wanted to study neuroscience since I was a high school student learning about the brain in biology and psychology classes. The brain’s ability to allow humans and animals to move, think, feel, and everything else amazes me. I had a great experience completing my B.Sc. at UBC, and wanted to continue to study here, so the Graduate Program in Neuroscience was an easy choice for me.

What are you looking forward to most this upcoming year?
I’m excited to attend my first international conference and get to present my work there and move forward with my research in the lab.

What’s one thing we might be surprised to learn about you?
I am a certified yoga teacher and am teaching classes on the side while I study at UBC!

Best piece of advice:
Try not to worry too much about the future and where your career is heading, and instead learn to enjoy and experience where you are in life right now.

What superpower do you wish you had?
I would love to have the ability to teleport anywhere in the world! Then, I could make it to all of the places on my bucket list.

Where in the world would you like to get lost?
Anywhere in Europe would be nice – Italy, France, Greece…
