Shelina Babul wins the Prevention and Awareness Award

Shelina Babul, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and sports injury specialist at BC Children’s Hospital recently receives the 2014 Prevention and Awareness Award from the Brain Injury Association of Canada. This honour is awarded annually to an individual, group or organization to recognize the significant support of education and prevention programs to advance the cause of acquired brain injury in Canada.

Dr Shelina Babul’s recent initiatives include looking at trends and patterns of concussions in BC; and knowledge translation activities to raise awareness of concussion and mTBI among targeted audiences, including health practitioners, coaches, parents and athletes, as well as educators. Dr. Babul’s is the Chair of the BC Concussion Advisory Network, and is also a co-investigator on the “Safe to Play” and the “Alberta Program in Youth Sport and Recreation Injury Prevention” grant-funded projects.

The announcement of the honour was made at the Awards Luncheon on September 25th, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel as part of our Annual Conference in Gatineau, Quebec across the river from Ottawa.
