UBC faculty of medicine’s Drs. John Fleetham and Keith Walley have been appointed to the Order of Canada for 2023.
The appointments were announced by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada. Considered one of the country’s highest civilian honours, the Order of Canada recognizes those who have enriched the lives of others and made extraordinary contributions to the nation.
“Today, we recognize individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to our society. A group of individuals who, through dedication and ajuinnata—perseverance—make our communities and our country better every day,” said Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada.
Appointees will be invited to an investiture ceremony at a later date to receive their insignia.
John Fleetham, C.M.
Dr. Fleetham, a professor in the department of medicine, is recognized for his pioneering work in sleep disorder medicine and for his mentorship of the next generation of sleep scientists.
Keith Walley, C.M.
Dr. Walley, a professor in the department of medicine, is recognized for his innovative and translational research in the field of sepsis and septic shock.
