Erin Michalak, a psychiatry professor in the faculty of medicine, is the recipient of the 2019 Douglas Utting Prize.
The prestigious award is made annually to a person or group, working in Canada, which has made a major contribution to promoting the awareness of depression and/or suicide and/or to advancing the understanding and treatment of depression.
“I’m deeply honoured to be named the recipient of the 2019 Douglas Utting Prize, a prestigious Canadian award awarded annually for impactful work in supporting people with depression,” Michalak said. “I accept this award with gratitude to the Utting family and the selection committee.”
Michalak, also the founder and lead of multidisciplinary collaborative network CREST.BD, will provide the 2019 Douglas Utting Lecture on Nov. 7 at The Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, where she will also be presented with the award and medal. Her topic will be Building Bridges: Harnessing the Power of Patient Engagement in Mental Health Research.
