Next generation of faculty of medicine researchers awarded federal funding

Faculty of medicine learners are among the UBC recipients of funding from the Government of Canada’s three federal research granting agencies, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

A total of $275 million was invested in the latest cohort of scholarship and fellowship recipients.

These awards recognize and support the next generation of research at UBC and across Canada. Nearly 6,000 scholarships and fellowships have been awarded for research training, including 240 master’s students, and 125 doctoral students from UBC. The programs include:

  • Canada Graduate Scholarships – Doctoral (CGS-D) and Master’s (CGS-M)
  • Canada Graduate Scholarships – Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements
  • NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships – Doctoral
  • SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships
