“Being chosen to receive this award has left me feeling incredibly humbled and honoured,” McEwen said. “I am blessed to have such a rewarding career – for the unique opportunity to treat patients in their hour of need – and also to work alongside an amazing group of local and national colleagues as we strive toward excellence in emergency medicine through education, research and advocacy. The journey has been a pleasure, and to be singled out to receive this award is a true privilege.”

McEwen is also the past president of the CAEP and an attending emergency physician at Vancouver General Hospital.

“This is CAEP’s most prestigious award, and a huge honour,” said Riyad Abu-Laban, Associate Professor and Research Director of the UBC Department of Emergency Medicine. “Receiving this is a recognition of the incredible and numerous contributions Dr. McEwen has made to CAEP and Emergency Medicine more generally, both nationally and internationally, over many years of service.”

McEwen received the award at the CAEP Annual Conference in Halifax.
