Faculty of Medicine researchers receive funding to develop therapeutic approach for inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases

Dr. Jayachandran Kizhakkedathu, professor in the department of pathology and laboratory medicine, Dr. Caigan Du and Dr. Christopher Nguan, associate professors in the department of urologic sciences, are award recipients of the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) 2020 Exploration competition.

Their research project plans to develop a novel treatment for inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases that affect one in three Canadians and cost the Canadian economy more than $100 billion a year.

This year’s 2020 Exploration awards support research projects with the potential to yield game-changing results in social, cultural, economic, health-related or technological areas.

Faculty of Medicine project & awardees:

Principal Investigator: Dr. Jayachandran Kizhakkedathu, department of pathology and laboratory medicine
Co-applicants: Caigan Du and Christopher Nguan, department of urologic sciences
Project: Endothelial glycocalyx repair and rebuild as a novel treatment for inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases
