Celebrating UBC Resident Doctors
More than 1,440 UBC resident doctors are delivering excellence in health care for British Columbians
Each day across British Columbia (B.C.), more than 1,440 UBC resident doctors are training in regional, rural, remote and Indigenous communities as family doctors, pediatricians, surgeons and more.
From providing specialized care to children with complex needs to improving supports for older adults, and ensuring effective treatments for neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, UBC resident doctors are enhancing the delivery of care to British Columbians. Many are also generating new knowledge through research which is improving healthcare and informing best practices.
As mentors, UBC resident doctors are inspiring the next generation of doctors by sharing their knowledge and skills with UBC medical students across the province.
“We’re so proud of all the resident doctors at UBC. Their dedication and commitment to improving health is remarkable,” says Dr. Ravi Sidhu, Associate Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education. “I also want to recognize the thousands of outstanding UBC clinical faculty members across B.C. who are training resident doctors to provide excellent and compassionate care while simultaneously providing care for patients, families and communities.”
As part of Resident Doctors Appreciation Week, we caught up with a few UBC resident doctors to learn more about their training experiences and what the Faculty of Medicine’s vision of transforming health for everyone means to them.

Greener family medical practice
A team of UBC family medicine resident doctors in Kelowna have created a special training module to help physicians reduce their carbon footprint and become planetary health advocates. Geared toward both resident and practicing doctors, the training module offers practical advice on reducing medical practice emissions and encouraging patients to make healthy, planet-friendly lifestyle choices.
