By Patricia Angel | March 16, 2012

Two Faculty of Medicine graduate students placed among the top three finalists in UBC’s 2012 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Participants in the 3MT have just three minutes to explain the breadth and significance of their research project to a non-specialist audience.

Fergil Mills, PhD candidate in the Neuroscience Program, was named Runner-up for his presentation titled “Too much β-catenin: Sticky Synapses, Sticky Memories.” Mills’ supervisor is Shernaz Bamji, Associate Professor in the Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences.

Jason Tan De Bibiana, MSc student in the School of Population and Public Health, received the People’s Choice Award for his presentation titled “What is the Impact of Housing First on Emergency Department Use among Homeless Individuals with Mental Illness in Vancouver?”  Tan De Bibiana’s supervisor is Arminee Kazanjian, Professor in the School of Population and Public Health, with co-supervision from Jim Frankish, Professor in the School of Population and Public Health.
