Hometown: Langford, B.C.
Program: North Okanagan Family Medicine – Vernon
Year in Program: 1
What inspired you to pursue your program?
Family medicine stood out as the clear choice for me throughout my medical school training. As someone who enjoyed most of my medical school rotations, family medicine allows me to do a broad scope of practice and work with a diverse patient population. I enjoy the variety of patients and challenges that I can see on any given day in clinic. The longitudinal nature of family medicine means that I have the opportunity to build trust and rapport with patients over time. I am excited to work in rural areas of the province and know that the demand for family physicians in these areas is especially high.
Why did you choose UBC?
UBC has a great family medicine program and I feel confident that I will graduate with the skills and knowledge to be an excellent family physician. With my interest in rural medicine in mind, UBC offers many rural and remote training opportunities.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
I am looking forward to getting to know a new part of British Columbia. There is so much to explore in Vernon and the North Okanagan, including lakes, camping, hiking, cycling and most importantly, lots of outdoor climbing opportunities. With regards to starting residency, I am excited to be attached to one clinic for two whole years! It will be really nice to get to develop longitudinal relationships with patients and help them navigate any health challenges that come up along the way.
