Dr. Wendy Norman

Wendy Norman, Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Practice is recognized with the Federation of Medical Women of Canada’s 2015 Enid Johnson MacLeod Award. The Federation of Medical Women of Canada presents this annual award to the nominated member or associate member who is felt to have made the most significant contribution to women’s health research or education. This award was established to honour Dr. Enid MacLeod, a long-time member of the Federation from Nova Scotia. Dr MacLeod was known for her research into the use of curare for anaesthesia and remembered for her generosity and warmth of spirit.

Dr. Norman holds an 8-year Career Investigator Scholar award from the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research for her research program: “Family Planning Health Services Research”. She and her team are based in the Women’s Health Research Institute of BC Women’s Hospital and she leads the national collaboration: Canadian Contraception Access Research Team/Groupe de recherche sur l’accessibilité à la contraception (CART/GRAC www.cart-grac.ubc.ca).  Dr. Norman is also the CIHR Chair in Applied Public Health Research (awarded 2014 from CIHR and the Public Health Agency of Canada).  This is Canada’s first Family Planning Public Health Research Chair, and the first tri-council research chair ever held in the Dept of Family Practice at UBC.
