Two students from our Faculty have received 2017/18 Killam Doctoral Scholarships. Killam Doctoral Scholarships are the most prestigious awards available to graduate students across UBC and are awarded to those who are “likely to contribute to the advancement of learning or to win distinction in a profession.” This year, fifteen doctoral students from the UBC Vancouver campus have received the scholarship for the 2017-2018 academic year.
The two recipients of the 2017/18 Killam Doctoral Scholarship from our Faculty include:
Heather Palis
Program: Doctor of Philosophy in School of Population and Public Health
Research focus: Daily treatment adherence and stimulant use among patients receiving supervised injectable opioid assisted treatment in Vancouver.
Her research is focused on patients with severe opioid use disorder that have not been reached by available first line treatments and continue to inject illicit opioids. The continued injection of illicit opioids poses risk for a number of harms, including the spread of infectious disease, overdose, and overdose death.
Michael Skinnider
Program: MD/PhD
Research focus: The development of bioinformatic methods to interrogate the protein-protein interactome.
