Tracy Pickett awarded Royal College grants

By Patricia Angel | January 28, 2013

Tracy Pickett, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, received a grant and fellowship to support professional development and graduate training in clinical forensics.

Dr. Pickett received a Professional Development Grant from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Royal College) to support the month she committed to the Novel Education in Research Design course by the UBC Department of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Pickett was also awarded the Detweiler Travelling Fellowship from the Royal College to support her Masters Degree in Forensic Medicine at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. She is the first Canadian to take this program. Her research focus within forensic medicine is how emergency medicine links with legal practice such as juresprudence, lawmaking and public safety.

After receiving her medical degree in 1995, Dr. Pickett completed her residency in emergency medicine at UBC. Since 2000, Dr. Pickett has worked as an emergency physician at St. Paul’s Hospital.

The Royal College’s grants and fellowships program supports research and development into medical education, continuing professional development and as well as issues that address the needs of Canadian society.
