Three faculty members are part of 10 UBC scholars that have been selected as Peter Wall Institute Wall Scholars for 2017-2018. The Wall Scholars Research Award is available to UBC Faculty members to spend one year in residence at the Institute in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
Michael Brauer
Professor, School of Population and Public Health
Dr. Michael Brauer’s research focuses on linkages between the built environment and human health, with specific interest in transportation-related and biomass air pollution, the global health impacts of air pollution and the relationships between multiple exposures mediated by urban form and population health. He has received the UBC Faculty of Medicine Distinguished Achievement Award for Overall Excellence in the past.
Heather McKay
Professor, Departments of Orthopaedics and Family Practice
Dr. Heather McKay’s personal research program evaluates the positive role of a healthy lifestyle on child, youth and older adult health across settings—schools, community and the built environment. Thus, she conducts interventions that aim to effectively improve the health of individuals.
Lynn Stothers
Professor, Department of Urological Sciences
Dr. Lynn Stothers investigates all aspects of bladder function and has a research program with a special interest in the use of technology to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of lower urinary tract disorders. She works in global health and has developed clinical tools to overcome barriers of literacy and language in Africa and address factors influenced by the social determinants of health.
The term of the appointment for this year’s awardees will be from August 1, 2017 to July 31, 2018.
