Steve Beerman receives national resident well-being award

By Patricia Angel | February 8, 2012

Steve Beerman, Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Family Practice, received the 2011 Dr. Derek Puddester Resident Well-Being Award from the Canadian Association of Internes and Residents (CAIR).

Dr. Beerman is the Nanaimo Site Director for the UBC Postgraduate Family Medicine Residency Program and the chair of the UBC Department of Family Practice Residency Resilience Committee.
His initiatives within the Nanaimo Family Medicine Residency Program include the implementation of academic weeks in place of academic half-days and the promotion of a culture of wellness by ensuring residents look after themselves.

In addition to his medical duties, Dr. Beerman is the President of the International Lifesaving Federation. Through this role, he advocates for drowning prevention through a variety of World Health Organization and United Nations initiatives.

The Dr. Derek Puddester CAIR Resident Well-Being Award honours those who have contributed to improving resident well-being in Canada.
