Dr. James Frankish, Professor and Director of Centre for Health Promotion Research, has won the Ron Draper National Health Promotion Award from the Canadian Public Health Association.

Each year, the Canadian Public Health Association honours individuals or organizations who provide outstanding service to their community and profession.

Dr. Frankish is a leader in the field of health promotion in Canada. He led or helped establish the first university-based research and practice institute on health promotion at UBC (Centre for Health Promotion Research); the National Program of Research on Literacy and Health; and the Canadian Consortium for Health Promotion Research.

As an educator and mentor for students in public health, he has promoted collaboration among researchers from different fields, partnerships with communities and community organizations, participation of people from vulnerable population groups, and participation of students in community-service learning.
