Ronald Abrahams honoured with the Meritorious Service Cross

By jwong | June 6, 2017

Ronald Abrahams, Clinical Professor, Department of Family Practice, has received the Meritorious Service Cross. The Meritorious Service Decorations, created by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, recognize Canadians for exceptional deeds that bring honour to our country.

Dr. Ronald Abrahams is honoured with this award for his incredible work in treating and advocating for pregnant women with substance use and their babies. Together with Sarah Payne, who was the former senior practice leader for BC Women’s Perinatal Addictions, and who is also receiving the Meritorious Service Cross, established Fir Square Combined Unit at BC Women’s. This unit, which addresses the need for compassionate and non-judgemental care for pregnant women struggling with substance use, has greatly impacted this vulnerable population by improving health outcomes for mothers and their babies.
