Robert Liston awarded Prix d’excellence

By Patricia Angel | August 6, 2013

Liston-Robert-OBST 01Robert Liston, a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Executive Associate Dean, Clinical Affairs, received the 2013 Prix d’excellence/Specialist of the Year Award for Region 1 (British Columbia and Alberta) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

The Prix d’excellence/Specialist of the Year Award recognizes Fellows of the Royal College who have made significant contributions in providing outstanding patient care to their patients and the community in which they practice.

As Executive Associate Dean, Clinical Affairs, Dr. Liston ensures there is an effective linkage and coordination with the Health Authorities. He provides leadership and support for programs within the community and for strategic new initiatives that engage the service delivery sector. He also supports and nurtures faculty members engaged in clinical activity throughout the province.

Prior to moving to British Columbia in 1998, Dr. Liston was Professor at Dalhousie University, as well as Postgraduate Program Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine and Chief of Obstetrics at IWK Grace Hospital in Halifax. Between 2000 and 2010, he was Head of the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

Dr. Liston’s research interests now focus on maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality and on pregnancy outcome disparities. In the past he was active in the Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Canada where, as Chairman of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Committee, he took a lead role in the development of clinical practice guidelines.
