Nick Bansback receives the Maurice McGregor Award

Nick Bansback, Assistant Professor, School of Population and Public Health is the winner of this year’s Maurice McGregor Award from CADTH.

The Maurice McGregor Award was established in 2014 to recognize rising health technology assessment stars early in their careers. The award is named in honour of Dr. Maurice McGregor, retired Chair of the Technology Assessment Unit of the McGill University Health Centre and Professor Emeritus of McGill University. Affectionately known to his colleagues as the “grandfather of HTA in Canada,” Dr. McGregor was also appointed Officer of the Order of Canada for having pioneered and championed the field of HTA in Canada and for his leadership in medical education and cardiology.

Dr. Nick Bansback’s research aims to inform policies and practices in health through the application of health economics and decision theory. He has published widely in the use of preference-based instruments such as the EQ-5D, conducted numerous economic evaluations in rheumatology, and is currently focusing his research on improving decision-making at the patient/physician consultation using decision support tools.

Dr. Bansback was formally presented with his award on April 12, 2016 at the 2016 CADTH Symposium being held in Ottawa, Ontario.
