Michael Noble receives BC Quality Award

By Patricia Angel | November 7, 2013

Michael-NobleMichael Noble, a Professor in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, received the 2014 BC Quality Award in the Leadership in Quality category from the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council (BCPSQC).

The BC Quality Awards recognize individuals, health care teams and facilities that have implemented measures, or engaged in initiatives, to improve the quality of care in BC.

Dr. Noble is actively engaged in laboratory quality education, research, and outreach on both national and international levels.

In 1983, he established the first pan-Canadian medical laboratory quality assessment program, named Clinical Microbiology Proficiency Testing. In 2002, he developed the UBC Program Office for Laboratory Quality Management and the first online course in Medical Laboratory Quality Management in North America. In 2009, he developed the first Quality Management Seminar series for training medical laboratory residents in the principles and practices of quality issues for medical laboratories. This series is delivered every two years for UBC residents and is the only one of its kind for medical residents in Canada.

Dr. Noble is the vice-chair of the Standard Council of Canada’s Advisory Panel on Standards (Health Care) and the chair of the Canadian Standards Association’s Strategic Steering Committee on Healthcare Technology and Systems.

Read more about Dr. Noble’s achievements on the BCPSQC website.
