Faculty of Medicine leads by example in 2014 Sun Run

By bkladko | April 29, 2014

The Faculty of Medicine distinguished itself in this year’s Sun Run in both the team and individual competitions.

The Faculty’s official team placed first in the “Health/Medical/Dental” division, with an average time from the top 10 runners of 39:24. This was more than 6 minutes faster than the second-place team in the division.  Based on those top 10 finishers, the Faculty of Medicine placed second among all corporate teams, losing out only to ICBC (whose top 10 average time was 39:08).

The team consisted mostly of students, with a few faculty and staff members — 85 people registered and 74 finished Canada’s largest 10-kilometre race, which was started by two faculty members, Doug Clement and Jack Taunton.

In addition, Rachel Cliff, a student in the School of Population and Public Health’s Master’s of Occupational and Environmental Health program, won the women’s division, with a time of 33:14. It was her first time competing in the race. Read about her victory in the Vancouver Sun.

The Faculty of Medicine congratulates the team and Rachel on their performances, as well as anyone else in the Faculty who crossed the finish line.
