Bruce McManus, Professor in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is the 2015 recipient of the Howard Morgan Award for Distinguished Achievements in Cardiovascular Research.
Dr. McManus serves as Co-Director of the Institute for Heart + Lung Health, CEO for Centre of Excellence for Prevention of Organ Failure (PROOF Centre), and as Immediate-Past Director, UBC James Hogg Research Centre / Centre for Heart Lung Innovation.
Dr. McManus has made contributions to heart and lung for over 40 years. His research focuses on the mechanisms, consequences, detection and prevention of injury and aberrant repair in inflammatory diseases of the heart and blood vessels. He works in a cross-disciplinary setting, enabled by computational sciences, and focused on molecular bio-signature development and implementation.
Dr. Howard Morgan was a clinician-scientist who made major contributions to our understanding of cardiac metabolism and its relation to protein biology and heart muscle health. He was an unparalleled leader and convenor who is widely regarded as the primary force behind the development of the realm of molecular cardiology.
The award was presented at the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences meeting in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday, September 12, 2015.
