
Robert McCormack
Bill Clifford, a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Family Practice, and Robert McCormack, an Associate Professor and the Associate Head, Fraser in the Department of Orthopaedics, received 2013 Excellence in BC Health Care Awards from the Health Employers Association of BC.
Dr. Clifford, the Chief Medical Information Officer at Northern Health, received the Health Care Hero – Northern Health award. He was recognized for his work on electronic medical records (EMR) management. Since starting his practice in 1987, Dr. Clifford has been committed to developing, implementing and raising awareness of EMRs to provide valuable information and improve patient care. Today, nearly 95% of Northern Health physicians are using EMR, compared to the national average of about 50%.
Dr. McCormack, a Director at Simon Fraser Orthopaedic Fund, the research arm of Fraser Health’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, received the Health Care Hero – Fraser Health award. Since 1998, he has been the principal investigator for close to 60 international and national research studies focused on testing surgical interventions to improve outcomes for patients. Dr. McCormack has been instrumental in advancing evidence-based clinical practice for the management of orthopaedic patients by his participation and leadership in research.
The Excellence in BC Health Care Awards were created in 2007 to honour the efforts of health care employees and acknowledge excellence and innovation in publicly funded health care. The 2013 awards were presented on June 24 at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver.
