11 members of the Faculty receive MSFHR Health Professional-Investigator Awards

Eleven members of the Faculty have received the inaugural Michael Smith Foundation Health Research (MSFHR) Health Professional-Investigator Awards. The award recipients ranged from emergency physicians to midwives and psychologists. The MSFHR Health Professional-Investigator Program is designed to develop BC’s research talent and help decrease the gap between health research and its implementation. The awards support health professionals who are actively involved in patient care to conduct and apply research relevant to health and/or the health system.

Award recipients and their research projects:

  • Jeff Brubacher, Associate Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine
    Research: Health related quality of life following road trauma: An emergency department inception cohort study
  • Kendall Ho, Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine
    Research: TEC4Home: Telehealth for emergency-community continuity of care connectivity via home monitoring
  • Zachary Laksman, Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine
    Research: Developing personalized anti-arrhythmic drug therapy for atrial fibrillation
  • Christine Lee, Clinical Professor, Department of Pathology
    Research: BCaLM research program: A safe and effective lyophilized fecal microbiota transplantation program for chronic gut disorders
  • Janice Leung, Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine
    Research: Understanding the aging HIV lung from dysbiosis to cell injury
  • Seonaid Nolan, Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine
    Research: Addressing morbidity, mortality and health care costs among patients evaluated for addiction care in acute care settings
  • Robert Olson, Associate Professor, Department of Surgery
    Research: Canada-wide comparison of patient reported outcomes by complexity of radiotherapy technique for bone metastases
