Victoria Cook, a pediatric clinical immunology and allergy fellow at the Faculty of Medicine, has been selected as one of two recipients of the 2017 Kristin Sivertz Resident Leadership Award. This award was established to recognize residents who exemplify leadership within Canadian specialty education and encourage the development of future leaders in medicine.
Dr. Cook is best known for her innovation in creating and developing the simulation curriculum in the pediatrics residency program. Using high-fidelity equipment, Dr. Cook and several colleagues created a rotating schedule of simulation opportunities addressing all CanMEDS roles for the senior residents.
Her research covers clinical areas of the immunology and allergy specialty, including primary immunodeficiency, asthma, food allergy, and atopic dermatitis. She has also published extensive reviews of mobile health publications in clinical practice and advocated for the need for physicians to be more involved in the development of the medical content of mobile health apps.
The award will be given at the International Residency Education Awards dinner in October.
