Two Faculty of Medicine projects receive CFI grants

Faculty of Medicine researchers Leonard Foster and Natalie Strynadka are among fifteen UBC researchers who received a combined $3.9 million in funding for their research projects this week from the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund.


Dr. Leonard Foster, Interim Head and Professor, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, received $500,000 for his research project, Breeding for Disease Resistance in Honey Bees.


Dr. Natalie Strynadka, Professor, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, received $770,000 for her research project, Antibacterial Discovery on the Bacterial Membrane Facilitated by in vitro and in situ Cryo Electron Microscopy Methods.

The John R. Evans Leaders Fund helps universities attract and retain researchers by providing funding for tools and laboratory equipment, infrastructure and operating costs.
