Christian Kastrup, an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, was awarded the 2016 Banting Award for Excellence in Military Health Research by the True Patriot Love Foundation.
The award, adjudicated by the Surgeon General of the Canadian Force, honours Major Sir Frederick Banting, the world-renowned physician, researcher, Nobel Prize winner and researcher who discovered insulin. The award is given to a researcher who presents at the annual Military and Veteran Health Research Forum.
Dr. Kastrup, a member of the Michael Smith Laboratories, has developed a self-propelling coagulant that has been shown in animal models to be more effective than standard drugs or methods in controlling bleeding.
