Denise Pugash, a Clinical Professor in the Department of Radiology, and Mari DeMarco, a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, received 2014 Nelly Auersperg Awards from the Women’s Health Research Institute.

The Nelly Auersperg Award in Women’s Health Research was established in 2000 by donors who have known Dr. Auersperg for many years and admire her lifelong devotion and commitment to women’s health research and her contribution to medical science. The award is granted annually to a promising researcher in an area of women’s health to conduct an innovative research project which aims to generate preliminary data, and/or to test new approaches, methodologies or tools.

Dr. Pugash, a diagnostic radiologist at the Centre for Prenatal Diagnosis and Treatment at BC Women’s Hospital, was awarded $15,000 to explore prenatal diagnosis of fetal abnormalities using ultrasound and MRI technology.

Dr. DeMarco, a Clinical Chemist at St. Paul’s Hospital, was awarded $15,000 to develop a rapid diagnostic test for urinary tract infections.
