It was back to school for the Honourable Terry Lake, B.C.’s Minister of Health and Deputy Minister Stephen Brown, who visited UBC’s Vancouver campus this week to tour and learn more about teaching and research in the Faculty of Medicine.

The inaugural visit by the Minister included:

  • An overview and tour of the Djavad Mowfaghian Centre for Brain Health with representatives from the Faculty of Medicine and Vancouver Coastal Health;
  • A review of the Faculty’s medical and health professional programs, including a demonstration of the technology that supports distributed education across British Columbia;
  • And a tour of UBC’s Life Sciences Centre, with Pieter Cullis, Director of the Life Sciences Institute, highlighting research in both the Centre for Blood Research, with Professor Dana Devine, and the Diabetes Research Lab, with Professor Tim Keefer.

“The visit was a great introduction, providing us with an opportunity to demonstrate how our faculty, staff, students and programs are directly supporting the government in addressing health challenges in British Columbia,” said Gavin Stuart, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and UBC’s Vice Provost Health. “I look forward to continued collaboration with Minister Lake as we work together to improve health outcomes across the province.”
