What attracted you to your field?

Prior to medical school, I had a longstanding interest in women’s health. I conducted molecular research in reproductive endocrinology and worked on international policy development for maternal health. When I found out I matched to obstetrics and gynecology, I knew it would provide me with the ideal combination of every discipline – from primary care and preventive medicine to surgery and therapeutic procedures. I value the close relationships that are formed not only with women but also with their families. Above all, I was attracted to medicine because it has given me a true sense of belonging.

In 10 years, what UBC moment will you still be talking about?

In 10 years, I will still be talking about how I met some of my best friends at Camp Make Friends during the first week of medical school. The incredible people who I met along this journey have defined all of my favourite moments at UBC and I look forward to a lifetime of more memories to come.

What’s next for you?

I will be moving to Calgary to pursue my residency training in obstetrics and gynecology. During this time, I hope to further my educational interests in medical simulation and to pursue international elective work. I am committed to advancing my career goals, which are three-fold: first, to develop as an expert and an advanced researcher in women’s health issues; second to become an advocate for improved healthcare, education, and awareness in the field, and; lastly, to enrich the lives of others through meaningful contributions and collaborations.

As you look ahead, what (or who) inspires you?

During my time at UBC, I have had the privilege of working with many inspirational mentors who have shaped my trajectory towards obstetrics and gynecology. These are physicians in various disciplines of medicine who have taken the time to show me what it means to be truly compassionate and who have reminded me to remain engaged in continued learning, self-reflection and growth as I move forward.

Name one thing on your bucket list.

Meet Beyoncé.
