What attracted you to your field?
The journey from pregnancy to new parenthood is an intimate and transformational experience for most mothers and their families. Being a care provider and providing support to mothers throughout pregnancy, birth and the early postpartum period is such a privilege. Every mother’s experience is different, every birth is different, the learning never stops, and it never ceases to be inspiring.

In 10 years, what UBC moment will you still be talking about?
In the summer after my third year in the Midwifery program, I travelled to Nepal with two classmates and our incredible course instructor as part of a global placement. Working with the many mothers and babies in the rural community of Baglung during the 2015 earthquake was a challenging and life-changing experience. I will never forget the mothers we cared for and the relationships we developed with our Nepalese colleagues.

What’s next for you?
I will be working with one of the teams of incredible midwives at Pomegranate Midwives, a midwifery clinic in East Vancouver. Prior to that I am going to spend some quality time off with my family and my little 18 month old.

As you look ahead, who inspires you?
The mothers in my care are who have and who continue to inspire me. There are few things as inspiring as witnessing the strength and power of a woman bringing her baby into this world.

Name one thing on your bucket list.
I would love to return to Nepal in a few years as an assistant course instructor/preceptor with midwifery students heading there for their global placement.
