Year in program: 4th year
Hometown: Wallaceburg, Ontario
What inspired you to pursue your program?
I was inspired to pursue further training in biomedical research in thanks to the research experience that I obtained during my undergraduate degree, including volunteering in research labs to assist graduate students on their projects, and completing a smaller independent project for my undergraduate thesis. I enjoyed being on the frontier of new knowledge, and the dynamics of academia where we work as a team to make each other better, while each individual could make meaningful contributions to science as well.
What are you looking forward to most this upcoming year?
I am looking forward to travelling to international conferences – in particular a meeting that will be held in Australia where I will have the opportunity to present my research to others from across the globe and meet people who are enthusiastic about similar research directions.
What’s one thing we might be surprised to learn about you?
I was captain of my high school football team.
Best piece of advice:
Take advantage of your support team and let them make you better, while also being willing to help them in return.
What superpower do you wish you had?
Any superpower that would create more time in the day.
Where in the world would you like to get lost?
My answer to this changes repeatedly over time as I get obsessed with different locations that I want to travel to, but for now I will say Japan.
