Statement on the Missing Children of the Kamloops Indian Residential School

May 31, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we learn of the burial site at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.

The difficult and challenging truth revealed last week about the Indian Residential School is shameful and fills us with the deepest of sorrow. This truth demonstrates the reality and horror of the Indian Residential System, and all that it represents. A truth among many that must be recognized, acknowledged and atoned for before moving forward along the path to reconciliation.

Our thoughts are with the families, communities, residential school victims and survivors, and all who mourn.
