The following message was sent by Gavin Stuart, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Vice Provost Health June 24:
Dear Colleagues,
As you may be aware, we have been engaged in an active process to recruit a new Executive Director, Faculty Affairs for the Faculty of Medicine. After advertising this role widely and receiving much interest, I am pleased to announce that Shanda Jordan Gaetz has accepted the position.
Shanda has been at the University for almost 16 years. She may be known to you from her previous roles as Human Resources Advisor for the Faculty of Medicine or Director of Human Resources, or from her current role as Interim Executive Director of Faculty Affairs. I have had the pleasure of working with Shanda in various settings over the past few years and believe she possesses the knowledge, attitude and vision to assume an even greater set of responsibilities in the Faculty.
We took this opportunity to look closely at the role of the Executive Director, Faculty Affairs and the potential gaps that could be filled, given the recent addition of the Director, Human Resources role. We came up with a similar but expanded role that I believe will continue to build on the great internal support to our faculty and staff that has always been provided by this position, and expand that to our partnerships both within UBC and with our external partners, including the Health Authorities, partner universities, government and other external organizations. There is also now a greater focus on the strategic goals of the Faculty and ensuring that “people” remain front and centre in the decisions we make as a Faculty, and a commitment to build on the support and development of our staff and faculty to make this an exceptional work environment.
Shanda will move into the role immediately and will be working expeditiously to fill the Director, Human Resources role that she is vacating.
Please join me in congratulating Shanda.
Best regards,
Gavin C.E. Stuart, MD, FRCSC
Dean, Faculty of Medicine
Vice Provost Health, UBC
