Judith Hall receives honorary degree

Judith Hall

Judith Hall, Professor Emerita within the Department of Pediatrics and Medical Genetics, will receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree from UBC for her substantial contributions to society.

A renowned clinical geneticist, Dr. Hall has been at the international forefront of genetics and pediatrics for more than four decades. She is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and was inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame in 2015.

Her research interests include human congenital anomalies, including neural tube defects and connective tissue disorders. Dr. Hall was a driving force in clarifying medical understanding of how folic acid helps reduce birth defects and played an instrumental role in developing guidelines for care of common disorders.

The honorary degree will be presented to Dr. Hall during the spring convocation ceremony on May 24, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.
