UBC faculty of medicine’s Dr. Glenn Regehr has been honoured by the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) with the AFMC President’s Award for Exemplary National Leadership in Academic Medicine.
Dr. Regehr, a professor in the department of surgery, was recognized for excellence and exemplary national leadership in academic medicine. The award honours those with highly distinguished accomplishments and who have had an extraordinary impact on the national level.
Dr. Regehr joined UBC in 2009 to co-found the Centre for Health Education Scholarship (CHES) and is currently a scientist and associate director at the centre. Dr. Regehr has formally mentored over 100 students and junior faculty and has co‑authored over 250 peer reviewed papers and chapters on a range of topics including: authentic clinical assessment, professionalism, professional identity formation, self-assessment, self‑regulation, and feedback.
“Dr. Regehr has had an unparalleled influence on the development of medical education as a viable field of scholarship in Canada through his tireless mentorship of researchers, administrators, and educators,” says Dr. Dermot Kelleher, dean, faculty of medicine, and vice-president health, UBC. “His success derives largely from an unfailing dedication to the field as a whole, but more specifically to the desire to help nurture individuals in the field to be as good as they can be as scholars in their own right.”
Each year, the AFMC recognizes distinguished individuals for their leadership, excellence and achievements in academic medicine. The awards are presented at the annual AFMC Presidential Address and Award Ceremony at the Canadian Conference on Medical Education.
