Biography
Dr. Neeru Gupta is a professor, Head and holds the Stephen M. Drance Chair in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, and is a professor in the School of Population & Public Health.
A surgeon-scientist, educator and scholar, Dr. Gupta’s scientific work spans molecular and cellular mechanisms relevant to eye and brain health, clinical trials and surgical innovation. She is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the Lewis Rudin Glaucoma Prize from the New York Academy of Medicine, the Research Award from the World Glaucoma Association and the International Education Award from the Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Society. In 2023, she was elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
Dr. Gupta also serves as President of the International Council of Ophthalmology and the Association of Canadian University Professors of Ophthalmology, and has previously served as President of the World Glaucoma Association and the Canadian Glaucoma Society. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Glaucoma and serves on expert panels of the World Health Organization.
