Discipline-Specific Site Lead (DSSL), St Paul’s Hospital, Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of Discipline Specific Site Lead (DSSL) at St Paul’s Hospital (SPH). This is a role requiring a time commitment of 0.20 FTE (1 day per week) for a 1 year term and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the faculty. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2023, or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

The UBC Department of Medicine has training programs at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, and pursues research to make innovative advancements in knowledge and practice to improve health. The Department provides excellence in research, teaching, and clinical services related to the nature, cause, and prevention of adult diseases. We are the largest department in the Faculty of Medicine, with over 1,500 faculty and staff. The Department of Medicine includes 18 divisions with faculty located throughout the province of British Columbia.

Reporting to the Director, Undergraduate Medical Education and the Associate Head of Education, UBC Department of Medicine, the DSSL will work extensively with Year 3 students and staff of the UBC Faculty of Medicine at the SPH site. They are expected to keep abreast of current policies and procedures of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and will ensure ongoing accreditation of the Program by the College. The incumbent will be involved in curriculum development, implementation and review, and may be expected to Chair and participate on a number of undergraduate education-related committees.

The successful candidate will hold an MD and should have certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to medical education and extensive knowledge of the undergraduate medical education program mat UBC, within Canada, and abroad.
