Director, Vancouver Prostate Centre (VPC)

The Faculty of Medicine (FoM) at The University of British Columbia (UBC), and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI) invite applications for the position of Director, Vancouver Prostate Centre (VPC). The appointment is for an initial term of five (5) years with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review. The position is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to UBC who currently holds a faculty appointment at UBC or is eligible to hold an adjunct, partner or clinical faculty position in an appropriate academic unit. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024, or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 to be provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

The Vancouver Prostate Centre is a UBC Senate approved Research Centre of the Faculty of Medicine and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, with over 25 scientists and clinicians focused on the discovery, development, and translation of cancer therapeutics.  VPC consists of 75,000 square feet of Prostate Research Lab space, with a team of over 200 research and support staff, and leading-edge technology adjacent to the Prostate Clinic that treats more than 2,500 prostate and other urologic cancer patients annually.

The Centre fosters the paradigm of team-driven translational health research to discover molecular mechanisms of cancer progression and therapeutic resistance, to further develop new services and products that reduce suffering, improve survival for patients with cancer and promote regional growth of biotechnology. The research team focuses its efforts on fighting cancer through improved understanding of prevention, diagnosis and treatment, as well as patient education.

Reporting jointly to the Vice-Dean, Research, FoM at UBC and the Executive Director, VCHRI, the Director, VPC is responsible for implementing the research strategy, supporting the research of investigators and research scientists in the Centre, developing and maintaining partnerships to ensure faculty/research scientists are supported by the organization and host institutions to effectively conduct their scholarly activities. The Director oversees the activities of VPC, including grants, research contracts, and compliance with UBC and VCH/VCHRI research policies. The incumbent will be a member of relevant research committees of the UBC FoM and VCHRI.

Candidates should hold a PhD, MD or equivalent in a relevant discipline with a minimum of five years’ experience as an independent investigator including experience in the development, delivery, and implementation of collaborative research programs. Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of significant research achievement, commitment to multi-institute collaborations and ability to value the diversity of contributions from partners. Candidates should possess collaborative leadership skills, administrative experience, and ability to work effectively with learners, trainees, faculty and administrative leadership.
