Clinical Placement Lead, Midwifery Education Program

The Midwifery Program in the Department of Family Practice at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of the Midwifery Clinical Placement Lead. The Midwifery Clinical Placement Lead is an administrative position that does not require registration as a midwife. The anticipated start date of this position is July 1, 2022, or upon a date to be mutually agreed, until December 31, 2022. The expected time commitment for this role is 0.8 FTE (32 hours per week).

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

The UBC Midwifery Education Program enrolls more than 80 students annually and is delivered by academic and clinical faculty. Students spend a minimum of three years (7 terms) in clinical placements, with oversight by preceptors in midwifery practices. The Midwifery Education Program offers a Bridging Program for internationally educated midwives (IEMBP) to assist in the preparation for the registration to practice in BC and the support in a thriving Continuing Professional Development section.

Reporting to the Director of the UBC Midwifery Program, the successful candidate will have a background in midwifery in Canada and experience working with clinical faculty and midwifery preceptors. Registration as a midwife in BC would be an asset but not required.

The Midwifery Clinical Placement Lead is responsible for overseeing clinical placement coordination, preceptor engagement, committee engagement, and other activities as appropriate. The Clinical Placement Lead must be fluent in spoken and written English, must be comfortable with general computer use and learning new clinical management programs, hold exceptional organizational skills and comfortable calling clinical midwives to request assistance with the clinical teaching when required. The clinical placement lead will receive orientation to Midwifery courses and academic schedule and the computer programs used in clinical placement.
