Division Head, Comprehensive Orthopaedics

The Department of Orthopaedics at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of Division Head, Comprehensive Orthopaedics. This is a 0.10 FTE (1/2 day per week) position for a three (3) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review. This is an internal opportunity for current member of the Department of Orthopaedics.

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Orthopaedics, the successful candidate will have training as a general Orthopaedic Surgeon. The appointee will be expected to participate in the teaching activities of the Department, as well as provide mentorship and training to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate learners. The Division Head is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Division. Key responsibilities include: develop and assist faculty members with the implementation of practice relevant research programs, support of education leadership in the continual refinement and improvement of undergraduate and postgraduate education programs and learning environments, develop and support fellowship programs and continuing professional development, assist with the recruitment of clinical and/or full-time faculty members in order to effectively ensure that the academic needs for the undergraduate and postgraduate medical education programs are achieved, support faculty engagement and act as an advocate for their faculty members to ensure the Division/Department is meeting their needs and established role on key committees for the UBC Department of Orthopaedics.

The successful candidate holds or is eligible to hold a full-time clinical or academic faculty appointment in the Department of Orthopaedics at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in teaching, administration and research.
