Director, Mentorship & Wellness

The Department of Orthopaedics at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of Director, Mentorship & Wellness. This is a 0.1 FTE (½ day per week) position for a five (5) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review. This is an internal opportunity for a current member of the Department of Orthopaedics.

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Orthopaedics, the Director, Mentorship & Wellness is responsible for leading the development of a department-wide strategic action plan for UBC Ortho that seeks to prioritize wellness and fostering a culture of mentorship among all department members, including Faculty, Trainees, Learners and Staff. The Director, Mentorship and Wellness will work in close collaboration with the departmental READI Director and Associate Head, Academic, and will lead the creation and implementation of a mentorship program focused on supporting faculty members, staff members and all trainees. In addition, the Director, Mentorship and Wellness will support the creation of safe spaces to have open and honest conversations and help guide the discussion towards ideas and potential actions that can be taken to advance wellness and fostering a positive working and learning environment across all divisions of our department.

The successful candidate holds a clinical or academic faculty appointment in the Department of Orthopaedics. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational and time management skills, collaborative leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and administrative leadership.
