Lynn Beattie, Professor Emerita in the Department of Medicine, has been awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her contribution to Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) through the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.
Dr. Beattie is the Director of the Clinic for AD and Related Disorders at UBC Hospital and was the founding Head of the UBC Division of Geriatric Medicine. She was on the Board of the Alzheimer Society of Canada as Chair of the Research Policy Committee and served as President of the American Geriatrics Society and the Canadian Geriatrics Society. Since 2007, Dr. Beattie has been the Scientific Director at the Centre for Healthy Aging at Providence Health Care.
In addition to her leadership roles, Dr. Beattie has been involved in a number of research activities in AD. These include the multi-centre Canadian Quality of Life in AD Study, a number of clinical trials in AD, a look at psychological resilience and well-being of spousal caregivers of persons with dementia, development of psychosocial indicators of oral health-related quality of life in three ethnic groups, genetic epidemiological study of AD, brain power, resistance training and cognitive function in older women.
The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal commemorates the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. The medal honours significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
