The University of British Columbia, Southern Medical Program (SMP) invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean Research (ADR) Interior, Southern Medical Program (SMP).
This is an administrative role with a three-year term appointment, with potential for renewal for a second term, subject to satisfactory review. The position has a time commitment of 0.2 FTE, equivalent to one (1) day per week. The incumbent must have a faculty appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia and have sufficient protected time during the working week to fulfill the requirements of this role.
The position is based at the Reichwald Health Science (RHS) Centre at the UBC Okanagan campus. Travel through the Interior region and to UBC Vancouver campus may be required.
One of the key opportunities for the UBC Faculty of Medicine (FoM) Southern Medical Program (SMP) is to ensure that the best research opportunities are identified and invested in for the local environment and community. The Assistant Dean of Research (ADR) will oversee and support the operation of health research activities in the Interior. The ADR will liaise and work with all faculty members of SMP to set the strategic research direction, ensuring alignment with the UBC FoM. Through collaborations with scientists and clinicians and in partnership with UBC Okanagan and Interior Health, the ADR will support investigators in achieving their research goals, build research capacity, and facilitate undergraduate and graduate students in research.
The successful candidate will have a PhD, MD or equivalent in a relevant discipline, and a faculty appointment within the Faculty of Medicine, UBC. They will have a demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and apply an equity and inclusion framework to their work.
The ADR reports to the Vice-Dean, Research, UBC FoM on issues that are Faculty wide or of a regional nature, and to the Regional Associate Dean, Interior. The expected start date is October 1st 2025.
