Dr. Lauren Curry

By Alex Tsui | February 1, 2024

Program: Medical Oncology
Location: Vancouver
Year in Program: 5

What does the Faculty’s vision Transforming Health for Everyone mean to you as a resident doctor?

Residency provides an excellent opportunity to identify your interests and passion in this important career. Older adults face unique challenges in cancer care and can experience poorer outcomes related to their cancer diagnosis and treatment. Knowledge gaps can exist in the care for older adults with cancer, which can be due to their lower representation in research or compounded by other health disparities. I am passionate about improving cancer care for older adults in British Columbia and will be pursuing a fellowship in Geriatric Oncology at BC Cancer Vancouver this year.

What’s your favourite part about training in the community you’re in?

I feel very fortunate to be completing my medical oncology training in British Columbia. As residents, we are supported to complete rotations across all BC Cancer sites, allowing for diverse experiences in how cancer care is delivered in various settings throughout the province. In Vancouver, we have excellent mentors who are truly experts in the field of medical oncology. Through team-based care models, we collaborate with nurses, pharmacists and other health care providers daily to improve cancer care. Lastly, I work with a wonderful group of residents who make the training process incredibly rewarding and fun.
