Meet the class of 2019

Jasmine Kaur Gill

By dcc2012 | May 9, 2019

Hometown: Surrey
Program: Bachelor of Midwifery

Jasmine Gill, Midwifery

What attracted you to your field?

I was attracted to midwifery because of its model of care, which focuses on autonomy, informed choice, and continuity of care/relationships. Of course, the magic of birth was a pretty big draw too!

In 10 years, what UBC moment will you still be talking about?

Celebrations with my amazing classmates, including many hugs in the Life Sciences Building and indulging in those delicious Blue Chip cookies!

What’s next for you?

I will be working as a full-time Registered Midwife at a midwifery practice in Langley, where I completed my final clerkship. Long-term I am committed to growing midwifery in my community through education and collaboration.

As you look ahead, what (or who) inspires you?

The women and families I care for inspire me on a daily basis. Their strength, resilience and trust in such an intimate and vulnerable time in their lives is why I do what I do. Watching new parents meet their baby for the first time if pretty incredible! Also, my mom, who always sees and seeks out the good in people.

Name one thing on your bucket list.

To backpack through South America with my partner- even if it’s in bits and pieces!
