Elisabeth.McClymont_214X300What attracted you to your field of study or research?
My interests have evolved over years of education and work/volunteer experience. I am particularly interested in HPV vaccination in HIV-positive women and also HIV within the context of pregnancy. The field of HIV research is such a rapidly evolving arena as we continue to learn more and more – I think this keeps my area of study very interesting over time. The complexity of factors influencing HIV and HPV also contributes greatly to my interest in the area.

What excites you about the upcoming year?
Having just had the thrill of speaking at my first large conference in Maryland, I’m excited to continue working on my research and presenting it at various meetings this year.

What’s one thing we might be surprised to learn about you?
I started an undergraduate degree in economics and Spanish. I eventually realized that wasn’t the route for me and switched over to Health Sciences, which I have enjoyed greatly ever since.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I don’t know exactly where I’ll be and that’s something I love about academic pathways! I hope to be still engaged in research and will likely be pursuing a medical degree or a PhD.

Best piece of advice: Don’t listen to other people’s advice. Explore options for yourself and do what will make YOU happy.

Last vacation destination: Greece. It was a beautiful and friendly country. I loved driving through the Peloponnese and got engaged on Santorini!
