Program: MRSc in Rehabilitation Sciences
Hometown: Mission, B.C.
What attracted you to your field of study or research?
In 2002, while doing undergraduate courses in Human Kinetics at UBC, Dr. Darren Warburton introduced me to research and to Dr. Heather McKay. Dr. McKay subsequently provided me opportunities to work in her Bone Health Research Lab for several years igniting a love of research that I feel passionate about bringing to the field of massage therapy.
The interdisciplinary Online Masters in Rehabilitation Sciences seemed to be the perfect opportunity to connect knowledge and experience, research and physical rehabilitation. It has allowed me to continue my career as a clinician while learning topics, honing skills, and engaging in projects that are relevant to my clinical practice. The instructors, course content, learning, and support of my fellow learners have all far exceeded my expectations.
What excites you about the upcoming year?
This year I will be conducting my research project guided by an experienced researcher/clinician affiliated with the MRSc. I am excited to engage the whole body of research – from literature reviews to ethics, from data analysis to final reporting of outcomes.
What’s one thing we might be surprised to learn about you?
I love karoke!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I plan on pursuing a PhD focused on massage therapy after completing my Masters and hope that I can have a diverse career that includes clinical practice as well as research.
Best piece of advice: Don’t give up and always do your best.
Last vacation destination: My last vacation was to Edmonton in April, where I got to meet my new and first nephew, Evan.
