Program: Family Medicine Residency Program (South Okanagan site)
Year in program: 1st year
Hometown: Campbell River, BC

What inspired you to pursue your program?
I’m a people person. Family Medicine is centered around building a long-term, trusting relationship with members of your community. It is a unique field of medicine as the diseases you treat will come and go but it’s the patient that stays constant. Family physicians focus on treating their patients rather than treating a disease.

What are you looking forward to most this upcoming year?
My rural rotations. In these blocks we spend 1-4 months out in a rural community practicing medicine with the local physicians. When working in a rural community there are less healthcare resources available to physicians. As a result, there is a much larger scope of practice and physicians often find themselves working in an office, the emergency department, and delivering babies all in the same day! For my first rotation I am heading to Princeton, BC.

What’s one thing we might be surprised to learn about you?
You might be surprised to learn that I have never eaten a pear before.

Best piece of advice:
The world is your oyster. Pursue the things you enjoy and don’t stop until you’ve achieved your goal.

What superpower do you wish you had?
I wish I could fly.

Where in the world would you like to get lost?
A chocolate factory.
