Faculty of Medicine’s communications team honoured with multiple awards

By Reyhana Heatherington | July 10, 2019

The Faculty of Medicine’s communications team was recently awarded two national gold awards for excellence in communications.

CPRS Gold Award of Excellence 2019

At a ceremony on June 17 in Edmonton, the Canadian Public Relations Society awarded the Faculty’s magazine, Pathways: Homegrown Health, Gold for Best External Publication at the National Awards of Excellence.

Pathways was also named the Best Online Publication at the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education Prix d’Excellence Awards on June 5 at an event in Ottawa.

The winning submission, the third edition of the magazine, features UBC Faculty of Medicine students, faculty and researchers who demonstrate the success and impact of distributed medical education across British Columbia (B.C).

The publication, in both digital and printed formats, provides an in-depth look at the innovative partnerships and expansive medical and health professional training and research throughout B.C. Compelling videos, appealing graphics and photography all help to bring inspiring and highly readable stories to life. The stories delve into learning and discovery that make a difference in B.C. communities and around the world.

A comprehensive, multi-platform social media strategy amplified the Faculty’s work and led to extensive engagement across Canada. Pathways readers span the globe, with audiences from as far away as South America and Asia.

UBC Communications and Marketing Award 2018, CCAE Prix d’Excellence Gold Medal 2019 and AAMC Honourable Mention 2018.

“We are extremely honoured and proud of these awards,” said Katie White, executive director, communications. “Pathways shows the valuable contribution made by our team to showcase powerful and tangible examples that clearly demonstrate the Faculty’s impact and effectiveness in transforming health for patients and their families throughout our amazing province of British Columbia and around the globe.”

In recent months, the team also received an Honourable Mention from the Association of American Medical Colleges Awards for Excellence Competition 2019 for the second and third editions of Pathways.  This follows a UBC Communications and Marketing Award in 2018 for Pathways: Hope & Promise.
